Inga lives 3 miles more than twice as far from school as Brent does. If Brent lives b miles from school, then Inga lives ? miles from school.

Ok....putting these in math terms is the whole trick. You tried!...but here's what ya do.
Brent is "b" miles....you have this correct!
Inga would be 3 MORE THAN (addition) TWICE AS (multiplication) as Brent.
i.e. Inga = 2b + 3
So, I guess this is all you needed?
Brent lives 'b' miles from school....and Inga is '2b + 3' miles away.

no no, its says inga was 3 miles + TWICE as far from school as Brent, so Inga would be
(b x 2) + 3.

You are getting close but you left out that the twice which is two times.
let "A" = Inga
let "B" = Brent
Inga lives twice as far is a Brent: 2 x B or 2B plus three more miles so 2B+3 more miles:
A =2B + 3

ok since inga lives all 2 times as far from as Brent plus another 3 miles.
and brent lives b miles away....
your answer should be
inga= 2b+3
