Help figuring out my grade!?

Question

I need to figure out what grade I have right now and what grade I need to get on my final to get an A in the class...

The breakdown is like this
15 % Class Attendance and participation in discussions
20 % Midterm Examination
40 % Writing Assignments
25 % Final Examination

Ive gotten 100% on attendance
I got an 86% on my midterm
and I got an 94% on my writing assignments.

Take your scores divided by what they are out of for example 100/100 = 1 or 86/100 = .86 then take each of those numbers and multiply it by the breakdown, like .86 x .20 = .172 and add all those numbers up
you get .698 and if you get a 100 on ur final you will get .25 will will give you a 95 in the class, just take what you think you will get, like .94 x .25 and add it to your .698 and thats ur final score

Right now you should have about a 93 average going into your final and your final counts as 25% of your grade. So 75% of your grade is 93 and 25% of your grade is X.

So you will need to make roughly at the least 85 on your final. That will give you roughly a final grade of 91.3% or an "A"
The way you can roughly figure it is like this. 75% is 3/4 and 25% is 1/4

So totaling them up you will have 4 grades total roughly

making it into a formula we come out with:

(93 x 3) + (X x 1)
---------------------- = 91 transposing:

(93 x 3) + (X x 1) = 91 x 4 = 364

(93 x 3) + ( X x1) = 364 collecting terms by multiplying 93 and 3
279 + (X x 1) =364 collecting terms again
279 + X = 364 taking the additive inverse of 279 on both sides
279 + X -279 = 364 -279
X = 85 grade you will roughly have to make on final

I just picked 91 to use in this case because 90 and above it as A.

Hope this helped you. You can do it working percents but it is a lot more chance of making a mistake because of dealing with large numbers. Plus it is easier to write a program for it using smaller numbers and fractions.

Cant' figure it out without knowing how much weight the instructor puts on these different parts of the class. Some put no weight on attentance and participation, some put along. Some weigh the midterm as 25% of your grade the final as 50% and the others the remaining 25%. No way to figure it out without knowing this. Just do the best you can on the final.
