Is Esteben now considered the greatest guitarist of all time??

I am sure that the Home Shopping Network, and all the infomercial industry like to portray him as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. I will grant that he is a tremendous talent, and his rendition of both familiar pop tunes and classical music is captivating. However, I think it is a bit of a stretch to call him the greatest guitarist of all time, or a pioneer in popularizing the classical guitar among the masses.

I think men like Ottmar Liebert and Jesse Cook infuse their works with far more creativity, have a larger body of original compositions, and have done more to bring the classical and flamenco guitar genres the exposure that they rightfully deserve. If any one deserves the right as greatest guitarists of all time, of the acoustic variety, it would have to be these two men. I quite frankly find Esteban’s lack of original compositions a strike against him.

I worked in the studio with Esteban, and I must say I was very unimpressed. Now I'm no guitarist, but I could easily tell that his fingerpicking techniques had much to be desired in regard to accuracy. Granted, I'd still give my left leg to be able to play like him. Not by me. He is good but so is or was Eddie VanHalen, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmie Hendrix, Albert King. To name a few.

if he was the best, he would be selling out concerts all over the world. maybe it is him talking about himself you are hearing? he is good but the best is a stretch for him.
