How can we defeat a world of fanatical terrorists if we can't get along ourselves?

This country is so divided that we are in terrible danger. I mean if divide and conquer has any meaning we're in trouble. So since there is already so much disention in the ranks how can we possibly win. I seem to remember that on 9/12/01 we all seemed to be on the same page. But then this whole thing was turned on us. Our rights have eroded, all pot smokers have been branded as terror supporters, and anyone who speaks they mind is quikly shouted down as a traitor. What happened and how do you think we should fix it?

I think the question will take care of itself.
We have a great system which empowers people to help themselves and help each other, even though at times it looks less than perfect.
The terrorism thing is not something that began with 9/11. It may never end, but you can be sure that a small group of wackos will never defeat the majority of people in the United States or the rest of the world who have more important things to do than fight over stupid values.
Remember, to destroy the US they would have to repeat 9/11 100,000 times. I don't think that's even possible, never mind the fact that we would just nuke the middle east into a pile of sand if this threat from a tiny minority of middle eastern people gave us no other choice.
Personally, I think we withdraw from Iraq and just invest more in ourselves and our "kick ***" economy. I don't think that a few dweebs with no money can defeat millions with incredible resources. But, that's just my opinion. Maybe one day, our efforts might create an Iraq which will be a bastion of personal freedom and prosperity in the middle east, who knows. I know I can't fix it myself, I just do what's best for me and the people I love and have faith that most of the rest of the universe is doing the same.

It will take another big attack on the US, most people still don't see radical Islam as a threat. And the next one will no doubt be worse. Too bad we are all so short sighted here.
