I'd go with Louise on this. I've always found a wireless mouse a pain, either I've forgotten to change the batteries or I'm getting interference from someone else nearby Now I have a nice little USB mouse from PCWorld (groan, but it works!).

You can use a usb mouse but if you travel a lot with your laptop, you may find a wireless mouse more convienient. Logitech make a good one (you just plug a small device into your usb outlet when you want to use it and it comes with a nice travel case). Excellent if you need to use your mouse in odd places (like on plane or in cars) where wires would get in the way. They also make mini mice specifically for laptops. I use a mac but they work just as well with PCs.

These days most laptops have USB ports rather than PS/2 ones. (A PS/2 mouse port is green -- you can see a pic on this site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS/2_connector )

If this is the case with your laptop, then find a mouse that has a USB cable or, if you've got a mouse with a green PS/2 cable, you can buy a cheap USB-PS/2 converter on the web -- they're only about £1 plus delivery.
