Who we are as humans is created by the people and experiences we encounter throughout our lives. People who are very passionate tend to affect many people and do so in a more significant way than those who are less passionate.

Through our passions we influence, in some way, those we meet along the way. In a sense we become part of who they are. In the same way, they become part of the people they encounter and so on. In that way we do transcend death and obtain immortality.

Well, if you believe some of the haunting accounts, yes.

One story involves the death of an elderly widow. As she lay dying, her family and friends gathered around her weeping and praying. She told them "Don't cry, I'm going to be with my Love again," and then she died.

Right then, those in the room felt a presence, and at least one stated that she saw a middle-aged man hold out his hand to elderly woman.

Later, the family went downstairs where the butler, who had worked for the family for almost 50 years, told then that he saw "The Mister, in his Sunday best, was here waiting for the Mrs." He had known the master of the house more than 20 years prior.

This, of course, is only one account. But I still believe.

since spirit and religion are inherently linked to answer without religious implications is impossible. the definition of religion is not as narrow as you imply, it is very synoptic.

hmmm.... that is a very interesting, thought provoking question. I have no answer. I appreciate the question though.
So thank you for that, I shall think, and maybe say more on this later, when I have thought....
