We are about to launch a new site in about 6 months. We are completing data work for the site to be funtional for its sole purpose. So, we have this site and we have no intentions in getting involved with pay per click, we can easily be indexed by search engines but thats truly not enough. We need to focus on all businesses by state starting with the east coast in its intirety. Where should we start. Buying lists in those quantites is expensive. All suggestions truly welcome. Thanks , Tim C

A few free resources – check out the sources box for links:

1) Create a blog pertaining to your field

2) Use Yahoo! Local & Yahoo! Groups – Be sure to read the TOS for each one!

3) Write articles pertaining to your field and/or expertise.

4) Advertise on Craiglist

Also, consider signing up for an affiliate program. These programs enable you to advertise on other's sites (your affiliates) and once a sale is made to you, your affiliates & the program are paid a commission.

I listed a few handy sites & articles relating to marketing, promotion & advertising. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

I would suggest consulting a marketing company; this does not have to be expensive.

Failing that, have a look at advertising programs like Google Adwords. They can be very cost effective and will target the keywords you want.

There are many advertising sites, but one of the most popular is google. Check out this website, to advertise on google, but if you just browse through any site that has ads in it, you might want to find out how much the site owner charges for ads. For google ads, visit this link:
