It has long been thought that babies under a year old have only primitive memory systems and that it is not until we are a year old that we have the kind of memory that we have as adults. However, recent research has suggested that the adult type of memory is present in babies as young as two months old. So, it is becoming clear that very young babies have the ability to remember. It is also very clear that horrible events which occur in very young babies lives can have a tremendous impact. A good example is exposure to violence between their parents. Even though the child may not be the victim of violence, there is evidence that being exposed to violence can actually alter brain development. For example, children exposed to violence may have problems with "attachment" (developing bonds to those who care for them) and may have problems learning how to soothe themselves. These are problems which can effect someone well into adulthood. So, to answer your questions, yes, babies can "remember" horrible things that happen in their lives and it can cause problems for them as they grow up.

I wouldn't even know how to suggest you do some research, but I can tell you my own experience. I was badly abused as a child by an emotionally disturbed mother and I grew up to be very claustrophobic. I cannot give you actual details about the incident(s) that may have caused it, but I know it goes back to a recurring nightmare that I had well before school-age. I hope this helps, at least a little.

yes and no.ye because good or bad, all memories are stored in the subconsious mind. Usualy, brought to concious mind (i.e remembered) under hypnosis.no, because as far as i know, no body is doing hypnosis on 'babies'.
