Having read MiaVia 187s post I find that a hard one to answer. For spontaneous generation theory, we would have to know the exact condition of our planet at that time. Whatever took place here, would surely take place on other planets and may still be doing so now. Tiny single cell creatures may have just came into existence last month, on other planets. This would put us millions of years ahead of them. We are now starting to explore space. Soon, we may find primitive creatures on distant planets, that could benefit us in some way, if we simply adjust their DNA to suit us. It is quite possible that there may be life out there that is many millions of years ahead of us. They could have done that same thing to us. I think that is what did happen. On visits to see how we are getting on, primitive people would have thought aliens to be gods. Their science would have looked like magic. I prefer that view to the Harry potter type god that does everything by magic with no mention of science.I don't dispute a creator of all things but but doubt he would be so lacking in intelligence, he would bother to come to this infinitesimally tiny speck of rock and be bothered as to what the amoebas were up to today.

Tell me which sounds more ridiculous to believe.. a theory of Intelligent Design or this theory of Evolution (abiogenesis) I suppose you subscribe to..

There is a tremendous amount of proof against abiogenesis. First of all is Pasteur's proof that life does not come from inert matter (and this was of course at one time the prediction of materialists). Then came the discovery of DNA and the chemical basis of organisms. This poses a totally insurmountable problem to abiogenesis. The smallest living cells has a DNA string of some one million base pairs long and some 600 genes, even cutting this number by a quarter as the smallest possible living cell would give us a string of some 250,000 base pairs of DNA. It is important to note here that DNA can be arranged in any of the four basic codes equally well, there is no chemical or other necessity to the sequence. The chances of such an arrangement arising are therefore 4^250,000. Now the number of atoms in the universe is said to be about 4^250. I would therefore call 4^250,000 an almost infinitely impossible chance (note that the supposition advanced that perhaps it was RNA that produced the first life has this same problem).

The problem though is even worse than that. Not only do you need two (2) strings of DNA perfectly matched to have life, but you also need a cell so that the DNA code can get the material to sustain that life. It is therefore a chicken and egg problem, you cannot have life without DNA (or RNA if one wants to be generous) but one also has to have the cell itself to provide the nutrients for the sustenance of the first life. Add to this problem that for the first life to have been the progenitor of all life on earth, it necessarily needs to have been pretty much the same as all life now on earth is, otherwise it could not have been the source of the life we know.

DNA dealt a third blow at abiogenesis, a deadly one. DNA is a code, a symbolic code which in sets of threes defines which of the 20 odd amino acids used in life RNA should use at each step in making a protein. All 64 possible variations of the code are used in describing the 20 amino acids plus a stop. RNA has no chemical reason to understand which of these 64 possible codes pertains to each amino acid. DNA like all codes is symbolic and the understanding by RNA of the DNA code can only be ascribed to an intelligent designer. Given all these considerations, yes, abiogenesis is impossible.

Oh, by the way, I am a Christian (follower of Christ).

You should have known with a question like this that you would get all the "satan has twisted you" morons on here. You would never see a follower of the devil fly a plane into a tower. Or slaughter women and children mindlessly. Suddenly satan doesn't seem so bad, does he?
God has never helped anyone, only get them killed. He has more blood on his hands than Hitler, and that is indisputable. And i know atheist sometimes do wrong, but nothing like on the scale of these extremists. The bible is the single most extremist text ever, promoting homophobia and discrimination against non-believers. Religion is an excuse to kill. We would be better off without it all.

I know what you mean. At a low point in my life, I was invited to a rock-n-Bach religious blowout. At first it started with the usual ritual in the back drop musical instruments can be heard being tuned, at sudden.. the sermon stopped and the band began with rockets and fire, screaming holy this and holy that. I observed these people with their arms in the air talking gibberish and some on the floor going into convulsions of sorts( and they gunned down Keresh?). Some/scratch that, all of them do. it is a form of brainwashing. I keep my sanity in check and observe how others do not have it and are following their cults to their own demize. all of these religions need to be kept in check.
i found the nearest exit and ran for my life and found out that my life is OK,that I was alright, cause from all of what I saw that night constituted those inside that ballroom a one way ticket to the asylum if the police had seen them.

In the United States, Jehovah's Witnesses do not begin their house to house ministry before 9:30am. In some areas or on the weekends, they may not begin knocking on doors until 10:am or even later.

Really, everyone who respects and obeys Jesus Christ goes from door to door to teach his neighbors about the Bible's good news. It is interesting that only Jehovah's Witnesses are so clearly identified with the preaching work; globally more than 6 million preach publicly each month.

(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you.

(Acts 5:42) Every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus.

(Acts 20:20) I did not hold back ...from teaching you publicly and from house to house

It's sad when someone who claims to respect the bible actually insults or even advocates attacking a peaceful preacher. Sad but completely expected.

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching... You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

Really, if someone goes out of their way to disregard Christian preachers and preaching, what is he saying about himself?

(Luke 10:1-17) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos... “He that listens to you listens to me too. And he that disregards you disregards me too. Moreover, he that disregards me disregards also him that sent me forth.”

Well, the real answer is simply that religion appeals to the complete nut cases. A lot of people can't stand that there are a million and one things in the world that can't be explained, or can't be explained easily. So naturally the easy answer is to find a system that gives these answers in easy to understand belief systems and codes of conduct that remove any uncertainty about life and/or tough decisions.

There are all sorts of people who are nuts. Not just religious ones. Trust me. There are nuts everywhere. Yes, some of them are those crazy religious freaks....trying to convert the world in their own twisted way. But some religious people are OK, and don't feel the need to push anything on anyone. Stay away from the crackpots of the world in general.

Damned if I know...then again, in their eyes I guess I am damned.

I think they just need some stability, to belong to something seen as bigger than themselves. Which I have no problem with...but I wish they would stop trying to convert the rest of us!

Whatever you do, don't tell them that you are an atheist - they love a challenge.
