Just moved to the area and don't have a clue where to start. Living near Oak Creek, so wish to stay mostly in the southern part of the greater-Milwaukee area, though will try others... Help!!!

I think the name is South Woods of Cudahy - but I concur with the rating. I've only been once, but the prime rib kicked ***.

Leon's is the custard place on 27th street. There is no Kopps on the south side - the closest would be S 76th. But it's also worth a trip. Not only for the custard - they have flavors of the day - but for the burgers. They're monstrous and quite tasty.

I live northwest of you, so I am not familiar with restaurants in your area. There is the Prime Quarter - a steak joint where you have the option of cooking your own.

The Mexican restaurants are clustered around 2nd and National - if you like that, it's worth the trip. Also of note are La Fuente and La Perla - those are the 2 most popular. Conejitos - people either love it or hate it. My husband and I hate it, but again it's worth a try.

Wish I could be more help!

I grew up in Milwaukee and my answer is..depends on what you are looking for..if mexican...try just about any on the south/southeast side for truly authentic but especially Conehitos !! Ribs..pitch's or Saz's... steak and some of the best shredded onion rings EVER..Mannings Steak House also u...can't remember the name of it but right on Layton by the airport..., italian..has to be Mama Mias..love the lasagna and a good deal too... best salad bar, jambalaya and Sunday buffet plus live entertainment and awesome atmosphere would be Thunder Bay and Grille in Pewaukee...I LOVE that place. Those are all of my personal faves but u can always get a good meal at any of your TGIFridays and Outback places...Fish fry's...way too many to count but MANY of your local bars/pubs have some of the best fish frys or burgers made!! oh yeah...burgers u have to try Copps (also best ice cream along with geez..this custard place on 27th and oklahoma and now can't remember the name of that place either!) Good eats all around the area..one of the things i miss about being there!! Try the newer downtown riverwalk eateries too...fun and good atmosphere with decent food....

Here are two that are rated 5 star and have very fine food.

King and I Thai
Serves very fine Thai food and has very good service

South Winds of Cadahy
An older restaurant but do not let that fool you. This place serves some of the best food around. Great dining here.

Ned's Pizza (27th between Oklahoma and Morgan)
Leon's Frozen Custard (27th and Oklahoma)
Mazos Hamburgers (27th street across street from Leon's)
Goldcoast Subs (27th and Howard)
Fritz's Pub (20th and Oklahoma)

These places are affordable, excellent, and within blocks of each other. If you want posh, fine dining, go downtown.

Terrific micro-breweries there! You'll find plenty of aged steaks with an amazing selection of beers. If you drink crap, fake beer like Bud or Miller though, you will be disappointed.
