I am not totally sure, but I think I might have fractured the smaller top joint of my right ring finger... It hurts really bad and is swollen. Is there anything a doctor can do versus putting a splint on it and calling it a good day, because I can do that. Or is there other reasons I should go get it checked out...

if its just swollen, and no red streaks,no dark blue areas, isnt really warm,,and if you are over 25, i would say just splint it, and keep an eye on it,,,,, if it has any of those signs, or if your younger, i would go get it exrayed,,,, due to it may be more serious then just a break,, or fracture, and you still may be growing (so it might need extra care in setting it)

I think you are correct. They will put on a splint or a bandage just to keep you from hitting it on things and hurting you. I broke my big toe once and after the Dr. X-rayed the toe and told me that it was broken, I asked what he was going to do about it and he said, "Nothing." At least I had a Dr.'s excuse for being off from work, but that was the extent of it.

All they can do is take an x-ray to see how bad the damage is. If it's broken or jammed, they will reset it in place and put on a splint. You should at least have it checked out tho. Good Luck.

It could be misaligned and not grow back properly. You could have a chip that gets into your blood. A clot could form. There could be a situation where if you leave it alone it will cause nerve damage.
But then, I broke three fingers at once and just taped them.
