There have been many theories about Santa Claus each is intertwined with a culture's traditions and beliefs. I never truly believed in the Santa Claus that lived in the North Pole and provided gifts for good children. It was always a myth to me. Once though I heard the story of Nicholas, I think it was in a cartoon or something, but I really enjoyed it. It talked about a poor man that worked with wood and made figurines out of them. He lived in a poor neighborhood and worked hard to make a living. When it was winter there were was not much work so he had not a lot to go by but he had wood because he lived in a forest. One day he saw a little boy that kind of resembled Tiny Tim. When he saw the boy he felt pity for him because he came from an orphanage since Nicholas always had the little wooden toys that he carved with him he decided to give the little boy the toy as a gift. The little boy was elated and from then on other children came to Nicholas requesting the little toys. Whenever Nicholas could he would give the kids the toy but it happened that he took long to make the toys since he had to work in order to make a living. Since the toys took long to make the children only got the toys once a year on the birth of Chirst and then the tradition continued where one generous man made a child happy. I don't know I am not the best storyteller but that is how I remember the story and I really like it.

The Santa Claus of our current "theology" doesn't exist; that is the jolly one who lives at the North Pole with his wife and a bunch of elves making toys that he delivers on December 25.
But there was a Santa Claus in the past. I forget the time period, though if I remember correctly it is in the 1200's some time. It was Saint Nicholas, and he was a German monk. In wintertime when the German government of the time came for taxes (and no one had any money), Saint Nicholas would drop bags of gold down chimneys to help the villagers in the town he lived with their taxes and so they could have a little extra.
In time his legend grew until it became the Santa Claus we know today. In fact, if you know the German accent say Saint Nicholas with it. If you say it just right you can hear where the name Santa Claus came from (an English mispronunciation of the German name Saint Nicholas). So at one time there was a real Santa Claus, though he no longer exists.

Saint Nicholas has lived (as far as I know) about the year 300 or so. He was real. But before that, a tradition of giving gifts (filling socks, too) once a year (at the beginning of December), already existed in Europe (Holland, Belgium, Germany areas). They believed in a mythological character named "sinterklaas". Today's santa claus seems to be a mixture of both.

I think that he is real and I saw him once in the sky a light and a reindeer. It was beatiful and gorgeus. I really love it and I was so happy that I saw it. I called my mum and dad but it was too late he was already gone. BUT I REALLY SAW IT. I DIDN'T DREAMED IT.

Yup, there's a whole bunch of them standing on streetcorners begging for money, instead of doing their job.
