I guess that depends on who you classify as a nerd.
My friends and I have played MTG since it first came out. My friends and I also like to play golf in the summer, hockey in the winter, go to football games, and play online games. Many of us are in the computer field as support, programmers, etc., but a few are in sales, some are blue collar workers.
Most of the time, when I play now, I am using the online version of the game so I can play against a bigger variety of people and can see the cards in action. I also know that the official rules are enforced and not someone misplaying or misreading the cards.
Up to you but I don't mind playing against a nerd or a jock...I just play the game.

I've been playing for several years now and the only "nerd" I've ever played with was actually a very popular person but he has those moments where i could knock him out. Other then him everyone else is normal....except those weirdo's at the tournaments.

I know what you mean, before I moved I had a group of friends that played. The people in my new area that play are the typical "nerd" that you describe. I guess yahoo! is a good spot to find new people that fit more into your niche.

My sister and husband play it with their three kids. (The kids are in middle school, high school, and college.) I also have a "step-nephew" in high school who plays, but definitely isn't a nerd since he's also in a band! While I was in the Army and stationed in Haiti, a lot of my soldiers played MTG and I would say they definitely weren't nerds either!

Yeah, that's a struggle. There's a few of us but there are so many nerds we really don't play with them and keep to ourselves.

Your question is largely subjective. A nerd might perceive himself to be the normal one and you to be the weird one.
