It all depends on what type of wool you will be using and what size needles - it just needs to be big enough to fit his head, but don't forget the holes to go over his ears - to keep him really warm why not do a balaclava style hat - it would keep his neck warm too! What colour will the hat be? A nice mouse colour would look great. Hope it turns out alright and that you get top marks.

I'm glad this is only for your homework. Please do not knit your mouse a hat. Just give him some mickey mouse money to buy a proper one from a rodent clothes shop. If you knit one he'll either be too embarrassed to wear it, or will feel obliged and his mates will laugh at him.

What sort of school/place sets homework like that? Sounds a bit strange to me but anyway in answer to your question I would get a teeny, weeny, tape measure and measure it's head. You can always attach some elastic underneath to hold it in place if it's a little too big, of course.

The next question your teacher will probably set is what colour socks should a gerbil wear in November?!

i guess that if you had a knitting pattern for gloves you could just knit the top of the thumb or finger depending on how big your mouse is??

It should probably have a rim about the same size as your mouse's head. Any bigger and he will lose it, any smaller and it would hurt him to wear it. Any help?
