My daughter has been given a zero for a grade in one of her classes. She did the work, turned it in when due, and received it back from the teacher with a 100 on it. My daughter brought the zero grade to the teachers attention - and the teacher said she would change it - but has failed to do so. I emailed the teacher about this matter and she has not responded to me - should I contact the school or try to talk to the teacher again?

Also there are two other grades that should have been recorded - a 100 and a 86. This teacher has just entered dash marks in for the grade - and no grade showing up online. My daughter has had these papers back from the teacher for over a week.

My daughter brought this to her teachers attention over a week ago. I waited for it to be changed - but has not been changed. So I sent the email - waiting for a response - haven't gotten one yet. If nothing is done by Wednesday - maybe I should take further action. I would like this cleared up before school lets out for winter break next week - also the end of the semester!

Give the teacher another chance...have your daughter talk to her about it...put it on paper, make a copy for yourself and date it.
Send a second email, and ask that she respond so that you will know she got the info.
Please only go to the principal as a last resort. Some parents go straight to the principal without me even getting a chance to solve the problem. I do everything I can to get the administrative things done, but I will tell you this....I always respond to parents within 24 hours, I think they deserve that respect.

You should contact the school's counselor and ask if they might have the teacher either call you at home or set up a time to have a one on one conference with the teacher and counselor, so you have a witness to what you are being told about getting the grade changed. Possibly nicely, you can ask for the teacher to send you a notice when the grades have been recoreded correctly. I'd go in stating that you realize that the teacher is busy with more than just your child, but that their grades are important to them and they are concerned about receiving credit for their hard work. A good teacher will not hold that against your child. Sometimes a school computer system goes crazy and possibly she didn't get your email. Mainly, I'd suggest staying under control and not getting angry about this issue. I'm sure it can be resolved easily enough.

Is this teacher one that is good with technology? If not, chances are that she hasn't even checked her email. You also mentioned that the grades are online. A lot of the time teachers keep a handwritten copy of grades and only update electronic grades every so often. Find out from your daughter what time she has specials (music, pe, whatever) and call the teacher during that time block. It's probably the only time of day you will be able to catch her. Mention to her that you have been waiting for a reply to the email, and have been checking grades online. She'll either have a good answer for you, apologize and correct the error, or you should contact the principal. Good luck.

As a teacher myself, I can tell you that we're not perfect and do make our fair share of mistakes. However, in a case like this where the grade was clearly suppose to be a 100 but wasn't entered yet, I don't blame you for being upset.
Now you do have to realize that teachers are pretty busy with all the stuff we have to do, a lot of it behind the scenes like meetings, preparation, etc. This doesn't excuse the grade not being changed yet, but does let you know that it might not be done "overnight."
I would suggest letting a couple of days go by to allow the teacher to update his or her records. If it isn't done within say a week at the most, then I would contact that teacher and let him or her know that if it isn't corrected shortly, then you'll be forced to take it the next step.

I would personally say as a teacher to ask your daughter to tell the teacher that they said that they would change the grade for her and they have yet to do so. If this is not done it would be an idea for her to talk to somebody higher in the school than the teacher and tell them the problem that she has. It will be better coming from your daughter and they may take more action to sort it out. Hwever if not I would advise you to get in touch with the school, either by asking to talk to the teacher or somebody else and explain the issue.
Good luck

Go to the Principle or an Administrator or the School System.
When this starts up,.. Teachers some times don't actually follow through completely. The end results they have recorded some where else are what appear when the student ends that year and it can be WAY WAY OFF.
So you need someone else to jump on them and make sure they are doing things properly for ALL the students,.. not just your daughter. If they catch alot of problems they can get the teacher to straighten up or put them on something special as a warning,.. or even kick them out of the school as happened to some of my teachers,.. BUT ONLY IF THE RIGHT PEOPLE NOTICE.
Print out her grades and make copies of her papers that aren't recorded just incase. Some people have off days and never remember,.. then never believe anyone to try to get them to remember and correct things.

I am a teacher also. I would give her a few days to change the grade. In all honesty, it has probably just slipped her mind. You need to understand that we see tons of paper every day. She may have stuck it in with a stack of papers that she's not finished grading and then enter it as she's entering those grades. That has happened to me. If she hasn't done it in a few days, just call her up and explain to her (nicely, of course) that you'd like it changed promptly. I'm sure she'll do it immediately. If it still isn't changed the next afternoon, call her again and tell her you would like to set up a conference with her and her supervisor.

Schedule a conference between you, the teacher and the principal. That way everyone is on the same page. I would also politely tell the teacher that you are not leaving the room until the change has been made. Make sure that the principal changes it on her report card as well (if it affected a report card grade).

It is possible that the teacher forgot to upload the updated gradebook. From my own experience I often forget to do this which drives the parents crazy!!!! I'm not sure how long you've waited but maybe give her another week. Then I would try calling the teacher at school!

contact the school.. if the teacher is going to neglect to change your childs grade then something needs to be done. that grade could reflect on many things she may do... such as extra-curricular and field trips. Your child could miss out on things because her teacher is lazy and wont fix the problem.
