Im not taking anything away from Morneau's season but down the stretch he was cold. It was Torri Hunter who was driving in all the runs but everyone knows take Johan Santana off that team and they aren't a playoff team. My personal opinion that it belongs to Santana or Jeter because they are both the irreplaceable players on their team.

It's always up to the media. Big sluggers have always had it going for them since the Cy Young award was introduced for pitchers. In a way, it's like Don Mattingly said when he was angry at Roger Clemens for beating him out for the '86 AL MVP in a season where he hit .358 with 231 hits: "You kind of wonder what the team does the other 130 games without its MVP." I guess since Morneau played every day, and was clearly the biggest threat as a batter the Twins had, he was the MVP in the eyes of the sportswriters.

Its always the question when voting for mvp, do you want to vote for power, or average. Jeter hits for average, and is the best defensive shortstop in the league.

What about Hafner??? His numbers are comparable to any of these players. And I think it would be interesting to see the Indians record when he was hurt. I guarantee it was awful. I am willing to say that if Hafner does not get hurt the Indians are in the playoffs.

League wide if you look at players who've improved from one year to the next his improvement was deserving of the honor.

what games were you watching? who turned the twins around to make the push to first place? I wish hunter would have not had his option picked up and he could have went to the yankees and they would have turned him into chuck knoblach and ended his career/.

David Ortiz should have won the MVP, and Alex gonzalez should have won the gold glove. Enough said
