It really depends on what you enjoy doing...
Barcelona is beautiful, great food, lovely musuems and a great night life.
Madrid is beautiful, good food, outstanding museums and a great night life.
Granada is beautiful, the Alhambra is incredible!!
The coastal cities, like Marbella, is also amazing, a smaller coastal town that is lovely is Denia, it's quiet & mellow.
San Sebastian is an amazing city, beautiful & fun...
But again, how do YOU define fun? Do you enjoy museums? Do you want to party? Do you want to go to the beach?
Do you enjoy historical sites?
I promise there is something in Spain for you no matter what you enjoy!!

You seem to have alot of votes for Barcelona so I would like to put in a word for Andalucia. Although this does contain the Costa del Sol which is not everbodies "ideal Spain" it also has plenty of beautiful historic towns and cities such as Granada, Sevilla, Ronda, Cordoba, Jerez, Cadiz, to name just a few. In addition to which there are lots of beautiful "pueblos blancos" set in some stunning unspoilt scenary.
Then if you do fancy an "English breakfast" you can always nip down to the Costa!!
Anyway it is a lovely place, the people are friendly and the Andalucians really know how to party and have some great Fiestas.

Spain was incredible. I've been to Barcelona, Madrid, Sevilla and Marbella and I would recommend all of them. I dont even know where to start, I had such a good time when I was there. The cities, the countryside, the coast, the people, the architecture, the culture are all amazing. Spain is a must see.

Depends on the time you have... say for one week, I'd go to Barcelona (most european city you can find in the country), Madrid (more historical places, great nice scene) and Sevilla (it's just a unique city!!!).
If you have more time, visit the South in general, maybe even places in the North like Navarra or Asturias if you like trekking/hinking/outdoor activities. Don't miss the opportunity to visit a small traditional village (you'd need to drive there, though).
Use public transportation, is quite good, and it's inexpensive. Check the youth hostels around the country. Hope you enjoy it!!!

Barcelona is amazing. Definitely hit Park Guell. Also Sagrada Familia and you have to spend some time on the beach. Definitely one of my favorite cities in the world.

Barcelona has my vote. Best of everything. Beautiful beaches right in the city, history, shopping, sightseeing, nightlife, access to public transportation, aranged trips out and about, etc... Check out www.booking.com seems to always have the best range of hotels, and a map to pick them from, and ratings so you are not so suprised by the location.

Just go anywhere that does not offer 'Full English breakfast' otherwise you will be surrounded by pale, pot bellied, loudmothed English council house tenants who have saved their social security to go to Spain and watch footie on SKY TV in the sunshine. (I am English and constantly embarrassed by this )
