my family won't be able to decorate this year because we're doing A LOT of work on our house. and the whole things got me down. i love christmas and decorating gets me so cheery.. but i know thats not what christmas is all about and i know theres a ton of other things that i can do to get in the holiday spirit but i still really want that tree up for some reason. so yeah why do people feel that they need to have a tree up for christmas to really be christmas?

Well, personally, I don't.
However, since you feel the need, here are some suggestions:

1) Find a corner you can put up a small tree and decorate just that area ... then when you feel the blues, go visit your christmasy corner ... it doesn't have to be more than 4x4 feet or so ...

2) Contact a local nursing home, retirement center, senior activity center, mentally handicapped center, etc and ask if there is something you can do to help brighten the holidays there. Perhaps you can help decorate there.

3) Put some outside decorations up ... even if it's just a coupl,e things, that should also help you feel more festive.

4) Enjoy the season! Visit downtown areas, which are usually really decorated up for the season, even more than malls are. And there is something special about the feeling of a downtown core area compared to a mall.

Just as early Christians recruited Roman pagans by associating Christmas with the Saturnalia, so too worshippers of the Asheira cult and its offshoots were recruited by the Church sanctioning “Christmas Trees”.[7] Pagans had long worshipped trees in the forest, or brought them into their homes and decorated them, and this observance was adopted and painted with a Christian veneer by the Church.

its been around for years and year and years. And some people think that it goes through religion. Yah i get what you mean and it is confusing. Maybe have a room finished and put up a decorated tree and decorate the room and just have x-mas in there? I dont know. good LUck and Merry Chritsmas!

I guess it is a Christmas tradition. I love decorating the house for Christmas as well as seeing all of the other decorations.

believe it or not Christmas is a peagan hliday for fertility among other things were they would decorate with silver and gold and wrap a tree with silk while sings southing and happy songs for good harvesting and heathy babies and such. they would give gifts to others in the hope of impressing so they could mate. sorry to tell you people just didn't want to give that up so they change it to christmas to make it seem like its ok. if it doesnt sit well with you. you probably have a better relationship with god t
han you think.
