Does a thesis HAVE to be what subject you studied ?
I'm in unversity to become an astronomer ,
does my term paper have to be about astronomy ?

I believe that's decided by the faculty in your university concerned with your Doctorate in Astronomy, and I believe they would want your thesis at least be supportive of work in Astronomy. For example, a paper on some high energy physics which might explain some things in astrophysics could be accepted. I don't think a thesis paper on Chaucerian Literature is going to cut the mustard.

I guess so because my english teacher askes us to back up our point on a topic and I am in High School still.
