There was this movie.. in the '90's.. it involved a volcano eruption and lava like covered a modern village.. I can't remember much more but could you please help? If you're not sure exactly which movie, please give me a list of what you think it could be.. it's been bothering me for several years.. :( Thanks in advance!

it could be Volcano, Fire on the Mountain or Dante's Peak it is not Volcano since you said it takes place in a village not in the city.
