Skills? Carpentry, Inveting, Programming, and Inventing of course.
Accomplishments: He Invented the Cotten Gin, The Internal Combutian Engine, and some say Taffy.

He found the Americas...even thought he was completely wrong about it. He thought the world was about 18,000 miles long.and round.. so he decided to travel west to get a direct route to India. He was right about the earth being round. but it is actually 27,000 miles long. He found the direct route. and later Amerigo Vespucci realized that America was not India. so its named after him.
I know he sailed for Ferdinand the king of Spain.
