Heat has 3 ways to travel.
a) Contact
b) Mass flow
c) Radiation
Since space between Sun and Earth is empty only radiation
is the way energy comes from the sun to the limits of our
atmosphere. Radiation needs 8min+20sec for this trip.

Dont forget that we take Solar heat with wind flow etc. but
heat trasfer in atmosphere is too complex to understand for
non specialists.

Heat from the sun is a form of energy which travels at the speed of light. Thus, the heat will take 8.31 minutes at the speed of light to travel the 149.6×106 km (92.95×106 mi) from the sun to the earth's atmosphere.

There is more information on the sun from Wikipedia, the free, online encyclopedia at:

Hope this helps!

Heat radiation is a form of electro-magnetic radiation and travels at the same speed as light.
Hence time to reach Earth
=93*10^6 miles[distance to sun]/18600 miles/sec seconds
=93*10^6/186000*60 minutes
=8.33 minutes
