I am searching for a poem that speaks about the grieve a daughter expieriences when her mother dies suddenly and unexpectedly. A poem that illustrates how deep the loss is, how life is not the same, how sad the daughter is, a tribute to a wonderful mother so sadly missed.

She's a wonderful thing, a Mother
Other people can love her but only
Your Mother Understands you, Loves you and cares for you
And the only bad thing she ever does, is to die and to leave you...

Although not strictly about a daughter's loss, it could easily be adapted, 'Stop All the Clocks' by W.H Auden is truly beautiful:

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

I hope this is along the right lines for you.

The Mourning Angel

On a dark and gloomy day
as I struggled with my belief,
A luminous angel came my way
I thought to give some relief

"Don't fret, don't fright"
The beautiful being said,
"It will be all right"
The words echoed in my head

From your hurt, you can't hide,
I know your path is rough.
Left with no one at your side
Your life shouldn't be this tough.

You lost your best friend,
now all is grey and cold.
Too soon was the end,
yet not meant to forever hold

You feel lost and alone,
you have many reasons why.
Child, she'll welcome you home
for there are no true Good-byes.

She will be replaced by no other
and forever be in your heart
In the bond, of daughter and mother,
the two can never be apart.

My condolences to you for your loss. I found this poem (and a few others but this one was my favorite) on the website below.

A DAUGHTER'S PROMISE
© Allie B. Quaglieri

Every time that I smile,
Every time that I sigh,
I think of your face,
And a tear escapes my eye.

You were my world,
My inspiration and my heart,
But when you left me,
I thought I would fall apart.

You were my best friend,
My one true 'confidante',
And that's not all you were,
You were also my mom.

I didn't want to live without you,
But you would have wanted me to,
And if there's anyone I want to make happy,
That anyone is you

I would have given anything to have you back,
But I know now that it was meant to be,
For you are still watching from up there,
And I know you're watching me.

I'll make you proud mom,
I'm going to fulfill your wish,
You're going to see me and smile,
That's a daughter's promise.

Very nice !!! Very well done. It is Festival Night here so your poem came at a good time. We are having a traditional Smörgåsbord of Swedish meatballs, Kåldolmar — Cabbage rolls, Kroppkakor — Boiled potato-dumplings, filled with pork, Raggmunk — Potato pancakes, Ärtsoppa — Pea soup, Salmon, Julskinka and many fine desserts in honor of the Sea Queens. We have a separate table centered around fish that we get from the sea. I wish you could be here. You would enjoy the fun and you would see how important the seas and oceans are to us. We would have you snokkered in no time. You could be our Nordic Mistress of the Night this year. After a few drinks I bet you could beat the hell out of Brum Hilda. Good Morning to you !!! My Glögg is getting cold...time for more.

I know this isn't quite what you want, but nevertheless it moved me very much when I first read it. That was in the 1950s when I was about 13. Someone wrote it in my autograph book:
"If you have a mother
Cherish her with care,
For you never know her worth
Until you see her empty chair."

She died in 1977. I loved her so much and still miss her 30 years on.

Seamus Heaney wrote beautiful poems when his mother died, tick all your boxes except he is man and so relationship not same as for mother and daughter. Try him though as they are truly beautiful poems.

I knew this woman who is dear to my heart
suddenly one day it was torn all apart, this women taught me everything i needed to know, but i really didnt listen until she had to go. She gave me love and touched my life, its all over now she no longer has to fight. She tried to teach me right from wrong, the day she left i wasnt that strong. She is gone now it is hard to believe the woman was my mom. who i will never see.. but i will see her again this i know, the day will come when its time for me to go so i'll hold her dear to my heart cause the day we meet i know we'll never be torn apart
