I might be a male but being a automotive paint expert I know a thing or two about fingernail polish as they are both chemically the same except that polish has glycerin added to it for shelf life.
To prevent the discolor of the nail, first apply a coat of clearcoat as a base. Then apply color and then another coat of clear. The first coat of clear will seal your nail and prevent the color from embedding itself into the pores of the nail.
To get rid of the yellow you can try to soak the nails in acetone, fingernail polish remover. This will help lighten it some but most likely you will have to let the yellow grow out. Won't take that long.
I had been trying to make a 60 second drying fingernail polish back around 1997 but Revlon beat me to the punch.

Use a clear base and/or a nail filler (it smooths the surface of the nail) before you put on the dark color. To get rid of the color, you can buff your nails, but not a lot or your nails will get too thin. You can also put a natural color on until it goes away (which it will sometimes come off when you take off the nail polish).

You need to definitely leave your nails alone a while and make sure you are putting on a cover before the nail polish. This way you are protecting your nails, but you cant wear nail polish for long periods of time either. This will give it the color you are talking about. Take a rest for a while and then start again, but remember you will need a potective coat before putting on polish

It's a reaction between the chemicals in darker nail colours and nail beds.
Try 1/4 cup bleach plus half-cup water, to remove some of the discolouration. Soak your nails in this solution for 10 mins. Rinse and rub some chap stick or oil into your nails.
Another remedy: use denture tablets to whiten nails. Follow instructions on the package and soak nails between several minutes. Rinse and rub a little oil into your nails.
Also: from now on, use some clear base coat before applying nail colour of any kind. Try to use light or sheer colours for a few weeks before going back to more intense ones.

Yellowing of the nails could be caused by not using a base coat underneath your polish, or it could be a more serious nail fungus that needs to be treated. Lighten discolored nails with a whitening scrub containing a mild abrasive, or with a remover containing a lemon juice-like ingredient that bleaches out the yellow. To prevent the discoloration that occurs with nail polish stains, always use a base coat of superior quality.

Oooh, I know what you mean. I hate it when that happens. The best way I have found to get rid of the color is soaking your fingers in lemon juice or vinegar. It turns yellow because of the chemicals in the polish. You can help prevent that from occuring in the first place by putting a clear base coat underneath before you paint them.

Dark colors can leave semi-permanent residue on your nails. Before painting you nails, you should polish them with clear nail polish to protect your nails from the dye.
