I like Rap music as a kind of renaissance of a genuine afroamerican product raised in America, after Rhtymn &Blues, Soul and Funk were assimilated by the mainstrean white media.
The problem is that in its roots is much concerned with violence, hopeless people and the desperate effort to be someone above. After all rap was a product that black people could proudly announce as unique and as continuation of the afroamerican heritage.
I just know a little about Hip Hop culture but unfortunately, the tremendous success of some of his players overwhelmed them and became true the worst of the lyrics: hate, revenge and violence.
The classic examples: 2Pac Shakur and The Notorius B.I.G. (in 1996 and 1997) both killed apparently by opposite gangs trying to gain control of their respective territories. I agree with you, neither Rolling Stones vs. Beatles "battles" produced this kind of results.
Even though I still believe in Rap as a fruitful and very exciting musical genre to be heard.
Good luck!

Yea, back in your day, those guys were pretty light in the heels anyway. That's a pretty stereotypical and ignorant thing to say. You do raise a valid point to ponder. I think these new rappers now days grew up poor and a mindset was instilled that they either have to learn how to rap or play basketball to make something of their selves. Plus, for street cred these stupid rappers that shoot each other try to practice what they preach in their lyrics. It's a way of life to these poor kids, not a "job." And maybe they think their fame and money will put them above the law.

Insecurity.
They are very insecure. When they get everything they want and everyone catering to them they start to feel 'invincible'. It seems no one can bring them down, so to seek 'normalcy', they bring themselves down. Remember, most of these rappers grew up middle-class, not 'street'. Then they get out there with those who grew up 'street' and so they want to be credible in the eyes of their peers and their fans. Being invincible, they just keep talking trash to each other until it becomes one big pissing contest. They either take a step down or take it to the next level. The very few who DO take it to the next level wouldn't have done so if they really believed in themselves. Just 'insecurity'.

most of them have a 'hood' and 'hustling' history which again is combined with shootings, so i guess they only know that one way of solving differences. and yea i admit that its not professionalism
