it's about 2 months old, it has salt, rinse aid and dishwasher tablet. When it finished everything looked like it had been dipped in chalk. I did notice that the salt cap looked different....not sure incase im thinking of my old one, but when you unscrew the salt cap should it have a tube looking bit attached about 3 inches long? Its a siemens dishwasher if anybody has one can you let me know incase that bit should be there and has broken off.

Sounds like you live in a hard water area. With your mystery tube, just checked my Siemens DW, no tube, cap almost flat. Seems its either not rinsing or not 'regenerating' properly. 'Regenerating' is an action of the built in water softener, where it puts salt water through thee softener. Check the hardness of the water in your area, (either on your water bill, or phone the company) then look in the handbook at the way to set the machine for hardness of your local water. I had probs..similar... with my Seimens, under warranty(which you are) they changed the Rinse Valve, Rinse Aid Dispenser, and a 'Water Gallery' section which controls all the levels etc. By the way, go to Homebase/Focus/ B&Q for 'Water Softener Salt' much cheaper than Salt Tabs in Asda/Tesco...I keep big bag in plastic dustbin outside back door. The only othe trick which may help is to get some 'Washing Soda' (Tesco/Asda) 55pence, put the whole bag in a bowl, do a wash, cleans the machine and your drain. Works for cleaning washing machine as well.... whole bag in, hot wash.... all gunge gone. Bottom line for your DW, its under warranty.

Fill a glass up with water and let it air dry after poring the water out. If it is chalky it is your water. If not take all the salt and dishwasher tablets out then run a load through a couple of times. Each time use a different clear glass. compare them and see if it is getting better or not.
I think it is all the things your putting in with the dishes.

I had this problem and I have a water softener. All I did was change the brand of dishwasher tablet I used, surprisingly from a brand name to a store's own name. Never had any problems since. Don't use dishwasher powder as sometimes this does not dissolve properly leaving the chalky residue and can clog up your machine

You're problem is not uncommon, but I doubt that it actually has to do with the dishwater itself. I would first check or find out if you have a water softener installed in your house and if it's properly working. The "chalkiness" is usally lime build up on your dishes caused by the hard water. You could also call Siemen's customer service number. I'm sure they could help you out further.

You might be using too much stuff. Try a load with nothing but Cascade and see if there is a noticable difference.

If the tablets are 3in1, 4in1 etc, just use them on their own.
