My husband speaks Arabic as his first language and English as a second language. We have no problem communicating. I am even trying to learn Arabic so we can communicate better.

I'm married to a person who doesn't speak my first language. It's not a problem, since I'm fluent in HIS first (English). As long as both people speak the same language enough to express themselves and to communicate - what's the issue?

My sister is very happily married to someone who speaks English as a second language. Coming from a protective brother I do have to say I'm glad she married him because he is a very good guy.

I know a lady that married a man she couldn't speak to at all. She's from Chile and he's American, she spoke spanish, he spoke english. Now they understand each other and they have the most beautiful boy.

Why wouldn't you be able to? If you can both communicate with each other, sure. Language doesn't matter. Love does.

I GOT MARRIED TO A GUY WHOSE FIRST LANGUAGE IS ENGLISH. HE IS AMERICAN. MY FIRST LANGUAGE IS BULGARIAN, COS I AM BULGARIAN. FORTUNATELY I SPEAK A VERY GOOD ENGLISH(I USED TO WORK AS AN ENGLISH TEACHER BEFORE). WE DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH COMMUNICATION. AND STILL, I ALWAYS WILL HAVE AN EXCUSE IF I SCREW UP SMTH- I SPEAK ENGLISH, YES, BUT I AM NOT A NATIVE SPEAKER!

I thought that's what everyone was doing. SMILE and yes I see couples a lot here in Kansas doing just that, and appear very happy.

yes, lot of my friends did that. and they are ok. by time they both learn more about their partner's language.
