How do I get rid of house odor. It smells like it is old and has been closed up a long time, even though the carpet, paint and almost everything has been re done. What works best??

Open your windows and let it air out. Thats about all you can do, if you use other means you will just be covering up the smell. Allowing the fresh air to flow through will help to get the smell out.

Good Luck!

I have a friend that has a house like that. You can use the candles and sprays all you want, but that is just masking the problem. The smell comes back. It's probably mold. Until you find it and get rid of it your screwed. I think you get use to it though....only your guest will smell it...and they will be too nice to tell you. I'd ask my friend is she smells it, but then she would know I know.

I use a Bath and Body Works Plug in air freshener. in our funky apt either the garbage disposal, or the garbage it's self would just reek, even after running the disposal with hot water and taking out the garbage more often. we think there's mold somewhere in the walls or under the sink that we can't see, SO we plugged in a freshner, and turned out ceiling fan on low and in a few hours it smelled sooooo much better, opened our sliding door.

They are pretty strong, so get a scent you wouldn't mind smelling 24hr's a day!! so yes i suggest plugging one in AND cracking opening a window just to get some small air flow!!

1.wipe down the cabinets , woodwork/baseboards, doors with Clorox disinfecting wipes(orange container/citrus one smells the best but the yellow container or lemon scent isn't bad either) always gives my house a clean scent. And wipe down glass and windows with berry scented windex. (purple)

2. open windows/ get fresh air

3. Tear sheet of fabric softener into 3 pieces and put it in your vacuum bag before vacuuming.

4. Put some of these in garbage disposal

(or fresh lemon cut up will work)

5. These are the best candles ever and make your house smell GREAT!!!

Open bowls of white vinegar. It won't make your house smell like vinegar, it will help draw out the odor.

Use plug ins, potpourri, candles, etc. for a while.

Put a few cinnamon sticks, cloves, and lemon slices in a pot of water and simmer it on the stove. You can also put a couple of drops of essential oil in a pot of water and let it simmer.
