requesting a read receipt will tell you if the other person has opened the email and it will also give you the timestamp when it was displayed. but sometimes, the other person can choose not to send you the read receipt, then you will not receive one. a delivery confirmation will resolve this by notifying you that the mail was delivered successfully or not to the the other person.

If you choose the option of Read Receipt while sending a mail you will get notification when the other person has read your mail.Using it you are aware that your mail has been read by the recepient.
