Your keys are probably also programmed, its possible they have gone blank and will need to be reprogrammed. I have a 99 explorer and does the same thing when the steering colom is locked. Try turning the wheel away from the auto-lock in the steering colom, then turn the key. If the auto-lock in the colom is engaged and has pressure on it, they keys will not turn. Also, check the battery.

Could be a variety of things (it is a ford :D).
Stuff like dead battery, failed alternator, failed starter, blown fuse. My even be some other problem that the computer found and won't let the car start to prevent damage. But your safest bet would be something in the ignition system.

You have to calmly, turn the heck out of it. This happens with my car and what happens is that the ignition will lock. I have turned really hard and it has worked. I have reinserted my key very patiently and it has worked.

Sometimes, wehnt eh steering is locked you really have to give it hell to be able to unlock it. Get in thee and get mad with it in both directions as you try to turn the key, that might be it.
