Banks are a good place to start a career. Be aware that most large banks are moving towards a more sales-focused operations, which means that even tellers are expected to contribute to the branch's sales goals through product referrals. By starting in a teller role, you usually have a few different routes you can pursue, with the two main routes into either operations or sales. At the company I work with, tellers can be promoted into either an Operations Supervisor or Personal Financial Representative (sales) role. To move higher in branch banking, such as to an Asst Mgr or Manager position, you would need to establish a good track record in sales. Also keep in mind a realistic timeline for advancement. Just starting out, I would expect to remain in the teller role for AT MINIMUM one year before being ready/eligible for promotion or transfer. If you are not comfortable with sales, you may want to look for a position with a credit union. The operational aspects of the jobs are equivalent to those within a traditional bank, but credit unions are usually more focused on member service rather than sales (although it does depend on the credit union).

I think working in the bank if really good for young adults. It help them understand better on finance. There are positions that you can work your way up. Of course study business (Finance Major in College) will help you move up. There are three levels of teller, entry, intermediate, and seniors. Banking also have some administrative (kind of like behind the scenes, not at the branch but like headquarter office) position that you can work as an upward promotions. Even if you don't get in to the banking field, I am sure your current company have some upward positions. Look into it too, and good luck!

I work in a bank and started 10 years ago as a teller. banks promote and do a good job of internal training. You can easily move to a credit analyst and you probably can do it pretty quicly with your background and degree. I was going to go the loan department way, but i like the operations.

Try it and see if you like it. I got my degree in Broadcast communications with a minor in Philosophy and I have been in sales for 5 years...selling HVAC equipment. I LOVE it. The real situation is do you like the people you work with and can you hold your head high at the end of the day or do you work just so you can afford nicer and nicer things. If it is the former you will find it through trial, if it is the former that is tougher because there are a lot of people who have CRAZY money and are completely miserable.

Start doing something and stay in the money area because money attracts money. Even if you don't own it, it would be great to see huge sums of money everyday.
Also, you would meet the wealthiest people in your area.
