Children's book title!!?

Question

The plot centers around three friends (two boys one girl) who have to put up with the annoying little brother of one of the boys. The older brother and his two friends try to scare the little brother by telling scary tales. In the end, the little brother scares them all with his "scary tale" during a night in the woods. It's a beginner's book, c. 1987?

most major libraries have a master book of childrens stories/books. they are cross referenced in many cases by main character, setting, age level, ect. i would try there. good luck.
