I don't know if he's 15 or 16 years old? Also as he appears in some other of J D Salinger's works, does his age differ between books?

Holden is 16 years old
Since his debut in 1951 as The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield has been synonymous with "cynical adolescent". Holden narrates the story of a couple of days in his 16-year-old life

In The Catcher in the Rye Holden is 16 when he is telling the story, but he is reflecting back to when he was 15. I didn't know that he was also in other Salinger works. Will have to check that out.

He seems to be about 17. He's still at school, obviously, although he might have repeated a year or two.
