My friend gave me a laptop from her company, rather than throwing it away. It's a Dell Latitude, Windows 2000. I can't install any CD or program because it asks for the administrator password. My friend can't help me, she has the same restriction on her computer, since it belongs to her company. I've tried many password crackers that were free online, and I even took it apart to take out the CMOS battery. Nothing works! Please help me!

The password is stored on a special chip! It is wave soldered to the mobo! You wont be able to get it goin unless you take it to a proffesional and have him replace the chip!

There are 2 passwords. Pulling the CMOS battery would address the BIOS battery, but then you describe the Windows Administrator password.

Here are some options:

1. Reformat and reload Windows 2000 (or XP). Quite frankly, this is the best option as it will allow you to build it your way. If you use W2k, make sure to apply Service Pack 4 plus all other patches. W2K is a great OS, but M$ has dropped support for it.

2. Get a linux boot disk that will allow you to change the password for Administrator. I don't post that link here, but I might be convinced to help you offline if I'm SURE that you're not hacking something you shouldn't hack.

Flash the BIOS. Go to Dell's website. Look under Support on how to Flash the BIOS.
