Depends what it is. Maybe try and embrace it, i.e change it a little to make it not as bad, and laugh about it turn it into a joke.
Fighting these things often lead to embarrising confrontations, and those who want to believe it will and may throw it at you in the future. Basically take it and make it your own, then its your rumor.

If you know the source behind these false rumors then go to that person. Also, as hard as it is ignore them or set the rumors straight by the people that have heard them.

Keep ya head up. And don't try to argue them or else it will seem as though maybe they're true (even if not, people are stupid sometimes) and if someone says something or makes a comment just laugh or looked amused and be like if your dumb enough to believe that then I don't know what to tell ya.

This is ahard one. I think if the rumours are false then you should vindicate yourself by telling people that the rumours are false.

Screw rumors. If they aren't true, who cares. Let it go, i'm assuming you're still in middle or high school, because that's where most rumors start. Everyone has had rumors started about them, you gotta learn to let it go and just say I don't give a crap!

Correct them. Or make up a really bad rumor about someone else and get the attention off you.

Your only choice is to nicely confront those people that you know are spreading the rumor. Try to find out who started it and ask them why they would do it (find out why they are mad at you). But, realistically, all you can do is chalk it up to being a kid...kids tease and gossip.

find the humor in them. According to the rumors about me, im gay, evil, ugly and into kinky sex. the funny part of it is that the ones speculating about me in the above regards do not even know me. Human nature!!!!!!!!!!!!! ha ha. don't worry about it. it is just people w/ too much time on their hands

Live by the motto "Any publicity is good publicity." If people want to spend their time talking about you, feel good, even if it is not true. I wonder if anyone is talking about me right now??? I hope so!
