A few weeks ago, my pinky finger turned black and blue. It swelled up and was painful, not at the bottom or the tip, but the bone right under the nail. I have little swelling and no more black and blue, but it is crooked/bent? Is it broken? Should I apply ice, tape it?

I do not have health insurnace until March, so I have to rule out a doc at this time.

Going to the doc, I cannot do - I will try but not an option.

If I did nothing and my finger looked crooked, is that the worst thing?

I can bend it. I can shake hands. It hurts when I whack it on something or cathc a football the wrong way with my son.

I guess I'll ice it alot and get a splint.

QUESTION: Do i need the splint or just tape my fingers together?

The bone will have healed if it was broken so seeing a doctor will acheive nothing now. If the finger feels the same temperature as the rest then you just have to learn to live with it or have cosmetic straightening at some time in the future....;

It may be. I understand that you don't have insurance till March, but you will have to allow someone to POSSIBLY break it and set it IF IT IS BROKEN because your finger MAY grow crooked and the break / set possibility that would have to be done to correct it would be the only solution. Talk to the place where you would normally go for treatment in your area for xrays. See if they will work out a payment plan with you. Tell them you will have insurance, and the type it is, in March.

Without having a doctor examine it and evaluate it, nobody can say for sure. No medical professional is going to make a diagnosis or judgment over the web like this. The best anyone can say is, "It's possible. Take your finger to your doctor and ask".

Probably. I broke my finger once, but it never healed because i didn't do anything about it. Tape it for now, but if you can, just go to the doctor.

Try bending it. With out using a 3rd prty object. If not see a famiily friend with medical knowlage. Untreated breaks can screw your life for good.
