Hi, Can anyone recomend a comfortable guitar strap for me, one supporting the back and shoulder if there is such a thing! I play a Les Paul type guitar and I suffer from back pain from time to time especially in the 'shoulder blade' area when standing up to play for long in a band.

Thanks

you obviously spend a lot of time with your head down looking at what your playing. [not a criticism]
maybe you should train yourself to stand up strait and not look at the strings.
i've been playing for 35 years and i had the same problem, so i now practise my solos in the dark, and either close my eyes on stage, or sort of focus at the back of the hall to take my mind off hitting the right notes.
also i found this technique very liberating as you find your self hitting notes and going places you never expected, and if thy are in the correct key...all the better
ps. it's also a hell of a pose when the ladies think you can play without having to concentrate on what your doing!

failing that try a leather backed wide material strap, say 3-4" wide
it might distribute the weight better

I also have played heavy guitars including Les Pauls and Rics and I have come to love Ernie Ball straps. They're very good.

you ought to purchase 'Strap Locks' that have a element that replaces the screw, and yet another area that suits on the top of your strap. those are lots greater shield than the properly-known approach. If the screw is starting to be loose (e.g. because of the fact it has come out too many circumstances) the terrific approach may well be to get rid of it and fill a brilliant number of the hollow with plaster or plastic timber. you could then screw it in returned into the (now smaller) hollow and it would be shield.

That is the worst type of guitar for back trouble.
Very heavy guitar, I haven't seen a strap that would help your back. Have you thought about a lighter guitar?
Maybe an SG or a strat?

There are some Levy straps made of leather that look really cool and feel great.

I have a really bad back also and use Ralph Marlin straps. 3" wide and rough on the back side(neck does not slide down on you) I even use it on my carvin doubleneck. yeah its heavy.
