I've been fired from a few retail jobs, but they were such big chains that I was able to collect unemployment because nobody told the HR department why I was being fired. In my state, unless it is for "gross" misconduct like stealing or mouthing off to the boss or customers, you can still collect unemployment.

I think they use some sort of politically correct doublespeak like "involuntary separation."

The last job I got fired from was a year ago. The manager made a sexually inappropriate comment to me, and I reported him. From that day forward all the other supervisors (shift supervisors, assistant managers, etc.) made a point to yell at me or cut me down verbally in front of customers. After putting up with it for ten minutes or so I'd reached the end of my patience, and started yelling back.

They fired me, and I filed for unemployment anyway. It was denied, because that job claimed I was fired for gross misconduct, specifically insubordination. I filed an appeal, and called up my local law school for help. They had a program to let students get hands-on experience under the supervision of a real lawyer, so it wouldn't cost me anything.

When we went in for the appeal I didn't lie, I admitted that yeah, I did yell at a manager, but only in response to that manager having screamed at me in front of all the customers first. I also mentioned how none of the screaming happened until AFTER I reported the creep for the inappropriate comment, and that nobody had a problem with my on-the-job behavior or job performance until I did make the report. I also had an award certificate for excellent job performance with a date on it that was just two days before I reported the pervert.

The state ended up agreeing with me, and I got all the unemployment money that had been held back from me (six months worth).

Hope this helps.

Yes. I was fired from my first job. I worked at a Deli and I used to throw lunch meat, olives, chicken wings (anything really that was in my reach at the time) at the stupid ***** that worked aross in the shoe shop. She got fired when she started throwing shoes back at me.
I did not get unemployment because I was fired and not entitled to it

yes...i was fired from a physical therapy office. after 4 yrs of verbal abuse (racial comments because i am puerto rican) from the head therapist one day i couldn't anymore and i went after her, little thing ran away from me. I guess she never thought i was going to do something, after all i never did for 4 yrs. But i guess i was tired of being embarrassed in front of patients.
And no..i didn't collect unemployment..stupid me...i know :(

I was fired once in high school from my silly little waitressing job because I chose church over work. I wasn't too bummed about it, I hated my boss's wife. I soon found a much better job.

I was fired once. The "actual" reason was that I didn't know the boss had changed girlfriends, and was still being nice to the old one. The reason he gave (duh, in front of witnesses) was that I was an @sshole. They also paid me 2 years wages in compensation for that, and I had another job the next day.
