to metroactus: no, that is the complete quote. if you go on www.quotationspage.com, or type quotations page in the search engine and search under the heading 'knowledge' it is there. there is the same quote of his but it is rephrased differently: 'the only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance'

I agree. Ignorance can lead to a lack of choice, potentially leading to the disasterous consequences of a wrong course of action. Conversely, it might also lead to too many choices. By not knowing which one is best, the chooser might again, through personal taste and not logical reasoning, make the wrong decision.

It is far better to find out everything you need to know about a matter in order to make an informed decision, so that you can conciously choose which action will most likely benefit you.

Also, ignorance is linked to prejudice, poverty (in the fullest sense), ill-health, disease and many other things that make our lives miserable.

My own personal reasons, the ones I feel most deeply affect me, are that Ignorance makes me feel out of the loop, holds me back and makes me feel bad. Knowledge is most definitely power and can also be described as freedom, clarity, beauty and prosperity.

Sorry, I disagree.

Knowledge and ignorance are both conditions that can be used for either good or evil purposes. So neither is inherently one or the other. Examples:

Good Knowledge - Medicines that save the lives of innocent people

Evil Knowledge - Atomic power in the hands of a destructive person

Evil Ignorance - inciting a riot amonst an uninformed mob

Good Ignorance - Allowing a 3 year old to believe in Santa Claus, or sheltering them from the realities of a harsh world.

sometime lack of information helps to sparkling up the project. knowledgeable guy is trapped to do each and each and every of the artwork contained in the place of work. no one will contact an ignorant guy. So, I fell it truly is 50 % good and 50 % evil. in spite of everything smart human beings say "expertise is ability". And lack of information is darkness and one might want to no longer enter.

Total knowledge is good but limited knowledge can be bad. If you knew about every disease you could catch most people would kill themselves or never leave the house. It is also necessary to know how these illnesses are spread to assess your risk. Partial knowledge can be evil but total knowledge could be good. But since we are not likely to know everything we will always be ignorant.
