Plants take in Co2 and release oxygen when they respire through photosynthesis, therefore if their number decreases, there will be more CO2 in the atmosphere and less O2. They are also involved in the Nitrogen cycle and therefore deforestation will have a negative impact the the amount of Nitrogen leaving and reentering the atmosphere.

Hi. Carbon dioxide levels would increase. The trees would decompose into more co2. The atmosphere would have reduced radiational cooling and so become warmer. The warmer air could hold more moisture resulting in droughts in some places and increased storm activity in others. Just my opinion.
