Yes we prescribe this along with another antidepressant for PMDD. It is actually not PMS its called premenstrual dysphoric dysorder. That's the medical term. Zoloft has an indication for it's use 2 weeks before a menstrual cycle. Many people don't know that it also can be used for that but... guess what, it can. If your doctor prescribed it, and you have it then it's ok.
I wanted to give you a site to look up the information I just gave. Alot of people are saying there is no indication of Zoloft for PMS... its because its called PMDD.

This shows you Zoloft can be used to treat PMDD in our terms PMS so it is safe and effective treatment.

Hope it helps!

Sometimes doctors do prescribe antidepressants to treat PMS. I had drepression that always was worst 4-5 days before the start of my period. My doctor prescribed Zoloft and it helped me deal with that week much better psychologically. As long as your doctor is reputable, licensed & board certified, give the treatment a try. Antidepressants work for a variety of disorders. Good luck!

Zoloft is for anxiety and depression what kind of doctor do you see who would give you this for PMS. They are not the same!!

My husband takes Zoloft and no doctor has you start and stop taking it. Zoloft is a maintance drug you can not just stop for 2 weeks and go back and forth. Please see another doctor!

Zoloft, according to the "PDR (Physicians Desk Reference) Pocket Guide to Prescription Drugs", doesn't indicate that it can be used for this purpose. Talk to your doc because you should never use a medication, unless you have checked with your doc first, that can be / should be used for other things. It could be bodily dangerous over-all.
