WOW.. what a great assignment....you are free to "go anywhere"....so what do you like a hot climate or cold....do you like to snow ski or swim in a warm lake or ocean....???
Since I've had the computer since 2002 I've met people from all over the world and if I had your assignment I'd want to go to Egypt. Many of my online friends live right there where so much interesting history was made. Now the archaeologist are digging up more and more artifacts that shows us how they lived 1000's of years ago. Recently this past week they dug up a mummy who was a doctor and buried with him were his tools. They think he lived 4000 years ago. You can tell I'm excited right? I sure am....I love history because you can see what men did a long time ago and how far we have come in many ways....I hope this gives you an idea what direction you can go in and good luck. I'd love to read your paper when it's completed. One hint....if the teacher gave you an assignment to be completed in 2 weeks ...start on it now so you will have it ready on time. That was one thing I learned years ago. It cuts down on stress when you get your homework done early. See ya...mama jazzy geri italmama6060@yahoo.com

Timbuktu, Africa: It's an obscure place that people talk about, but don't know a whole lot about. It would be an easy assignment: Timbuktu is a history rich city, full of life and culture.

The Bermuda Triangle: it has been a place shrouded by mystery, but is it really all that mysterious?

Roanoke Island, NC: The Lost Colony is an interesting topic. Here is a link: http://www.coastalguide.com/packet/lostcolony-croatan.shtml

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Iceland - which has been studied for its feminist social structures. Women there used to find it amusing that the U.S. had male leaders in office.

Hawaii - Some groups are still fighting for independence from the U.S. so it can return to being a kingdom as it was before annexation.

Also Puerto Rico and other U.S. territorities are involved in political debate whether to seek independence, or full legal status as a state instead of remaining as colonies without equal rights as citizens.

Various "Bordertowns" along the Texas/Mexico border where residents have interacted freely as dual citizens until the recent movement toward stricter enforcement of immigration laws.

Headwaters Redwood Forest - a system of 5 forest groves in Northern California at risk of destruction by logging, since corporate raider Maxxam tookover Pacific Lumber through a hostile buy out using junk bonds at taxpayers' expense. HF includes the Elk River where rare salmon populations have dropped to 1% of their original size, and a rainforest ecosystem also full of endangered species. http://www.headwaters.org

Bangladesh - Founder of the Grameen Bank just won a Nobel Prize for microlending program started here to uplift families out of poverty through investing small loans to start businesses.

Ithaca NY - Paul Glover started alternative currency called "Ithaca Hours" (http://www.ithacahours.org) which has spread to other communities in the form of barter coupons.
Ithaca also converted all its animal shelters to "no-kill." So this might show a correlation between community-based cooperative economics and developing a more humane environment.

Freedmen's Town - Houston Texas
A national historic district and the last Freed Settlement of its kind left in the United States, unfortunately being destroyed by corporate developers due to its proximity to prized downtown real estate. Home to 10 historic churches and gravesite burials that are also endangered sites. One history graduate student described Freedmen's Town as having such a rich political and social history, 100 masters theses could be written about it.
