the answer to your question lies in an analysis of who the sportscasters are.
sportscasters are a part of the media; and the media makes up the AP poll. The AP crowns their own champion, regardless of what the BCS does.
since the AP crowned USC as the national champion in 2003, and since the AP crowned USC as the national champion in 2004, and since USC was playing for the national championship in 2005, then the media would say that USC is playing for their 3rd straight title.
regardless of whether other people agree with that or not, that's the way the AP does it.

There's only 1, just 1, not 2 or 3 national championship games, just 1.
It doesn't matter how long, or which teams r in the BCS, that is the National Title game that the voters decided on. The AP poll, the USA today poll, the Harris Poll, those don't mean anything if ur not 1 or 2 in the BCS. USC wasn't going for a third straight championshp. USC sucks.by the way.

NO KIDDING, everyone agreed that the BCS was fine at the beginning of the season. Then, when it isn't working out for USC, the start complaining. Also, LSU was undefeated, whereas USC had a loss. They were a great team, but not the national champions. I even kind of like USC, but that was total BS.

They were voted first in the AP poll which means they technically got a split of the national championship with LSU. LSU took the BCS championship, and USC got the AP championship, which was actually how they chose the National champions before the BCS was established in 1998.

because they are a bunch of douchebags. NCAA football decided to determine the national championship according to the BCS. this was the rules they were playing under in 2004. the AP poll doesn't determine the championship. all you can say about USC is that they were voted no 1 in the AP poll. these were the same writers that were saying at the time that OU was one of the best teams ever. right before they got blown out by Kstate and were badly outmatched against LSU.

In 2003, USC won the AP National Title, and that has been around a lot longer than the BCS title.
But I agree...sportscasters need to stop gushing over USC...Reggie Bush was getting illegal compensation while he was at USC...free hotels, a free house for his family, plus spending money...if this is found out to be true, then Bush's records for that 2005 season should be erased from the record books.

Because they were. Just like every team that won the national title the last 50 years. If you throw out the AP you throw out years of tradition. The BCS will be gone soon enough.
