No, Joke! The Greek diet was really very healthy. According to Angliacampus; "They ate lots of bread, beans and olives. They had plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables in the summer, and dried fruit in the winter. In winter they would also eat apples they had stored, cheeses they had made in summer, and lentils. As most of the Greeks lived very near the sea, they ate a lot of fish, squid and shellfish"

The Greeks ate meat too, although the poorer Greeks could not often afford it. When a poor person could afford to buy meat they would eat every scrap. They would even boil the brains!

Altough the tomato is used a lot in today's Greek and Turkish cuisine (the ancient Greek civilization's soils are today shared by Greece and Turkey) it would be necessary to remember that the vegetables they ate did not include tomatoes and potatoes - considering they came to Europe after the discovery of America.

Wealthy folks ate goat, lamb/mutton, fish and urchins. Also, wine and sometimes beer (known as "barley wine" in ancient Greek). Less well off people, pretty much consumed leeks, garlic, onions and barley meal. Everybody drank wine, and ate cheese, and olives/olive oil of course.
Much of today's "Greek" food is actually influenced by the Turkish occupation, but modern Greek food like Dolmades, Soulavki, and grilled lamb is pretty much unchanged.

the ancient Greeks ate, at the time of the Iliad, meat. cow meat, sheep meat, goat meat. almost never vegetables and maybe now and then some fruit. they did not use forks either, only a knife. hope it helps.
