An Itrip is used to play music from the ipod over the car stereo. Try Best Buy for one.

Some newer cars (probably 2006 model year and up) have an iPod adapter accessory that allows them to not only hear the music through the car's audio system, but will show the name and artist of the song on the car stereo screen and allow you to use the controls on the stereo. This device is usually available from the dealer or online for $100 or so. It really depends on the make and model of the car. If you could provide us with that, we can give you more accurate information. There are some aftermarket versions that do the same thing. If her car is older, then perhaps she is referring to an FM modulator and a cigarette lighter adapter as others have mentioned.

The AutoPort iPod adaptor seamlessly connects an iPod to an OEM car stereo. In the car, you can access the iPod with a multi-disc changer user interface or Satellite Radio user interface, depending on the capabilities of the particular automotive protocol.

An ipod adapter will allow you to listen to your ipod's songs through your car's stereo. This can be done through an FM Modulator (it outputs a radio signal which is received by your radio, but can be subject to interference or other stations) so better yet, directly through a cable. (Crutchfield.com sells adapters for specific cars and you can call them for help). Also, ideally, the "adapter" would also include a charger to charge the ipod through a cigarette lighter.

I believe it would be something that you can put in your car and then have your radio tune into it and you can play all of the songs on your ipod on the radio. Go to an electronics store they can help you out.
