Ok do Emo's suffer from a disease that makes them cut themselves, or are they just out of control and self abusive?

it is depression...... not a disease! just an anxiety or a feeling of no self worth....... it's not just emo kids either, anyone can be that way! it can be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, which in turn makes you feel like you are alone or worthless......
or it is a self-punishing device for when people feel like they would be burdening others if they asked for help.... so instead they take it out on themselves, punish themselves for hurting others.....

what in the world are you talking about and whom! dag got me doing research on this here questions and I planned not to learn today!!but here I go now you do the same! and lets learn alright i am! but I shall remain here to find out and learn then proceed to the task of research and "learning'! DAG!!
shwwwwwww alright now i understand the question by reading others answers and you know i have only met one with many many cuts on them and they are dont seem to think others see them or that they are visible and wow i thought she was abused and nearly murdered but wow just to think she did this to her self???
face head neck arms lips eyes everywhere but you know I have never seen a fresh cut ever so how so I guess she has stopped doing it with age and you know all the cut marks were old and some stictched up is this bad or am i just assuming from reading this is what it is! i dont know i am just babbling on print - sorry!

it depends. if the cuts are gone in a week they're looking for attention. If they've got scars and multiple cuts they've got a problem... but a lot of the people who really do have the problem keep it really private and are not what you'd consider emo.

People who are Emo are emotionally conflicted. They do not have an illness. It's just unlike others who can control their anger and feelings, Emos find pain-killers in cutting themselves, etc.

They suffer from depression. In my experiences in highschool, the kids who cut themselves were severely depressed. They didn't know how to express their pain, so they expressed it on themselves. And they do need help. And then there were some kids who did it just for attention. Which, they also need help.

Many people do it because it's the trend at school. Very few students actually suffer from depression according to the people at my local high school, they just want to fit in.

no it is just a sad chosen lifestyle. I guess they do not feel wanted or loved because they are usually depressed and want to stand out so more people will notice them. It could just vary from person to person, but believe me it is not caused by diease.

i think some of them cut themselves for attention.... others cut themselves because they are depressed... i wouldn't exactly call it a disease.
