It is a disc image format, used for backing up hard drives and burning cd's

It is the mac version of an windows ISO file. There is software to open them on a windows system, but it gets very tricky.

.dmg files are Mac and should be able to be opened by Linux.

Core 2 Duos have 64 bit capability. Core Duos do not.
