Well, I'm not going to do your research for you, but I know someone who recently found that his visa had expired - he forgot to renew it, assumed he'd already renewed it because he'd been to the office so often, but apparently that was just to get his re-entry permit. For a start, you have UP TO 6 months to object. You've failed to do that, so your time has expired. You say you were working on 'getting' your visa, but you left it a little late if there was up to a year when you didn't have a valid visa! These people don't normally CHECK up on you - so someone must have reported you for overstaying, maybe one of your ex-wives - or even BOTH of them!! The fact that you married Japanese women twice probably rang the alarm bells too - did you just do it so you could have a 'spouse of Japanese' visa? If not, the authorities probably THOUGHT you did - and I'm not surprised...! Did you work while you had no visa? If so, that makes your crime far more serious - and it IS a crime to overstay your visa!!! As far as I recall, if you leave the country of your own free will - but with their permission - and at your own expense, they'll let you back in after 1 year. Only YOU know why you didn't use that clause, or why they refused it if you requested it! But if THEY have to deport you forcibly, then it IS 5 years that you have to wait ... they don't want you messing them about again, they might not find you so easily next time you overstay...!! What reason did you have for being in Japan back then? Were you just a 'kept husband'?? I'm only asking, because you'll need a valid reason to come back to Japan - even in 2010 - with more than a tourist visa, and wanting to marry a Japanese woman isn't a valid reason - not with YOUR marital history...! Frankly, if they chucked ME out I'd probably be so insulted I'd never want to come back!! My Japanese husband would have to come to England ... not that THEY'RE very friendly..! I don't know why you want to come here again, but please remember that even when you have a valid visa in 2010 they can STILL refuse you entry at the airport! They can do that to ANYONE! (In ANY country!!)
