I own a 1989 GTA trans am with the 350.Just recently it begin to have problem's starting, cold or hot.alot of people told me it was this or that.It wasnt over heating ,but I changed out the water pump and thermastat.oil change and tune up.Everytime got in it,it started up and then only started when it felt like it.So I go and change out the fuel idle mixture motor, and again it started up fine a few weeks pass and i go to leave and it wont start.Put on a new fuel filter that's outside the gas tank.and again it did fine for a few weeks. So this last time it did this I took off my gas cap and she started right up.So I replaced it.What would be the prob if it continues, the check engine light stays on.

it sounds like you have a vacuum problem either in your tank or egr system area, take it to a reputable tech.(someone you trust) & ask him to do vacuum leak checks and smoke tests for your tank if he has the equipment

I have a 91' Chevy w/350cid and had similar problems.

Turned out, fuel pump was going out on it.
It would start right up every time when it was cold but had low power at highway speeds.(replaced fuel filter) it was REALY dirty.
Then, it would start right up and die when I would get on the freeway.
Then,....it would start right up, and die.

I replaced the in-tank fuel pump $250, and has been fine scince.
