24/5, they are open 5 days. Fine. 24/6 they are open 6 days. Fine. 24/7. Redundant! 24 covers it.

Yes the 7 is necessary. 24 refers to the number of hours it is open in a day but it is the 7 that qualifies it by pointing out every day of the week. Hope you understand that.

it is necessary because it tells how many days... sure 24... but 24 for hours what? the 7 shows that it is 24 hours a day 7 days a week... you need the 7 just like you need the 5 or the 6.

No, the 7 in 24/7 means that they are going to be open ALL 7 days of the week, usually including holidays.

No, it is not redundant, for the reasons that you stated. Most places that are open 24 hours, tend to be open 7 days a week. However, not all of them are...they could be closed Sundays... or any other day that they choose.

It's just information!

The expression is making it clear that all-night hours apply every day of the week, not just on certain days. Many businesses are open 24 hours on weekends, but close during the overnight hours on weekdays, for instance. Others are completely closed certain days (such as Sunday and/or Monday) but may be open 24 hours at other times. Finally, a place that is TRULY 24/7 should be open on holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving, when many all-night businesses close.

No it doesn't. 24 means the hours in the day. They can be open 24 hours but only Monday through Friday and then close at 11:59 pm on Friday night. so you need to tell them how many days a week you stay open 24 hours.

Yes it is totally necessary.....24 refers to the hours. 7 refers to the week.....if they say they are open 24, one could ask "24? Which 24 in the week/month/year are they open?"

Redundant or not, the phrase is okay. Consider the Preamble to the Constitution. "In order to form a more perfect union." In order to is redundant. And how can something be more perfect than perfect. Also redundant. So eliminate the redundant and the sentence becomes. "to form a perfect union." It sort of falls flat. Style and flow of language is important.

It is necessary to distinguish the schedual on the weekly baisis as opposed to the daily.

Open 24 hours is needlessly vague and would invite incessant inquiries, while twenyt four/seven sounds smooth and is definitive in scope.
